Weather concerns were put aside Friday and Saturday as Shepparton District Tennis Association’s opening weekend took place uninterrupted.
Round one competition in the pennant was largely one-sided on Saturday, with a statement victory for Shepparton North over Central Park, while McEwen Reserve commandingly swept Karramomus.
Dean Pritchett and Evan Cooknell had Shepparton North in an imposing position early, first registering separate victories before combining to make it a comfortable lead three contests in.
Helen Jackson would help steady the ship with a hand in two of the four straight matches her side would take to seal the tie.
Meanwhile, McEwen Reserve was never threatened in the other pennant tie as Tanner Hunter and Tim Comer strolled to success up and down the set of nine.

McEwen Reserve Green completed a rout of Lemnos with a barnstorming 9-54 to 0-10 result, highlighted by Sofia Stojanovski’s participation in three rubbers and conceding just two games in the process.
The opening A1/A2 round concluded Saturday with St Brendan’s notching a 6-47 to 3-30 triumph over Murchison Blue.
The A3 division also kicked off Saturday, as Shepparton North set out to potentially complete a club sweep for the weekend.
However, it would find itself undone in the closest battle across the round as Central Park barely scraped through for a 5-38 to 4-35 victory.
Elsewhere, Karramomus suffered a heavy defeat in one rubber, possibly creating a scoreline that slightly flattered St Andrew’s.
Nonetheless, Karramomus had no other trouble getting the job done 7-47 to 2-40, featuring a hat-trick of wins for Stephanie Veal.
