A remarkable showing of generosity and community support saw the Shepparton Golf Club hold a successful #DoingItForJarrod day on Saturday.
Held in memory of local golfing legend Jarrod Lyle who lost his battle with acute myeloid leukaemia in 2018, the event raised more than $37,000 for Challenge to help children with cancer and their families.
#DoingItForJarrod committee member Ray Sizer said the amount raised was a new national record for the event.
“It went very well,” Sizer said.
“The previous record was $17,000, so we smashed it by $20,000.
“The club is extremely proud, we had a great amount of support from local businesses and the local community.”
About 190 people took to the course throughout the day, while 220 attended the auction in the evening.
Sizer said people dressed up in yellow to show their support, with plenty of fun had in Lyle’s memory.
“Jarrod’s got an amazing name around the Shepparton community, he played his early golf in Shepparton before he turned professional so the whole crowd was right behind the cause in his memory,” he said.
“We’re very proud to hold the national record, they’re trying to get 300 clubs involved this year, we’ve set the mark so it’s up to everyone else to beat us now.”
