Sport is for storylines, and right now, the local bowls scene is bursting with them.
In Goulburn Valley Playing Area’s Allan Matheson Shield, reigning premier and genuine wrecking force Tallygaroopna will be required to audition for a shot at defending its title after the weekend’s result.
Meanwhile, Kyabram, which rallied from the doldrums to secure finals passage in the last home and away round, has secured a preliminary bout after a monster showing on the greens.
The weekend’s semi-finals were loaded up with shocks, and profiting the most out of it all is Shepparton Golf.
The Golfers have locked in a grand final spot after trumping Tallygaroopna at Euroa, storming away to a 16-83 to 2-71 triumph.
Anthony Flapper’s resounding 26-14 result in the third set of ends was the seal on a postage stamp performance by Golf, which now has a week off to get polished for the big dance.
In Saturday’s other semi-final, Shepparton Park crashed out of finals after being put to the sword by Kyabram.
Park was able to hold two of the four rinks to a deadlock, but the resounding nature of defeat in the other sets of ends were telling in a 16-88 to 2-64 victory for the Bombers.
Robert George’s quartet ticked off a 13-shot win for Kyabram, while coach Mal Williams also saluted by a double-digit margin.
But while Kyabram won the battle, the war is far from over.
Williams’ army will return to Shepparton Golf Bowling Club to take on Tallygaroopna in Saturday’s preliminary final, with the winner proceeding to the main decider.
