With weekend pennant off the menu for the first time this season, Goulburn Valley Playing Area’s bowls community had to think on its feet.
Storms throughout Friday night and Saturday morning forced the closure of most greens in the GVPA catchment, but thanks to Shepparton Park’s innovation, the show did go on.
Social bowls took place of the usual pennant competition on Saturday, drawing a throng of keen customers to the sheltered Kialla rinks for an afternoon of fun and friendly action.
The improvised triples tournament, comprised of three games of eight ends each, was well supported by a number of local clubs, and was eventually won by Shane Walsh, Joy Gardam and Ian Jennings.
News photographer Rechelle Zammit swung by to snap the players on the greens.
