There was a scintillating junior ton, six-wicket hauls and plenty of ‘ducking’ mayhem during this week’s edition of Saturday Sundries.

A pre-teen with a name synonymous with the town of Numurkah announced himself as a cricketer to watch out for at the weekend.
On the spookiest of days — Friday 13 — Numurkah’s Callan O’Dwyer produced a frightening performance in the under-12 A competition.
O’Dwyer single-handedly demolished his Shepparton Youth Club United opposition with the willow as he struck an incredible 125 not out from 38 balls with a strike rate of 328.94.
In the T20 format, O’Dwyer took the order to bash and crash literally as he smoked 11 boundaries and 12 sixes in a junior innings for the ages at Princess Park.
A 13-year-old wunderkind was recently bought at the IPL auction for $200,000, so the mind can only imagine what O’Dwyer may have gone for if the Bush Bash ran again this summer.
Brett’s D-grade domination continues
After his incredible bowling return of 8-0 in round five against Murchison made headlines, Northerners’ Tim Brett has again produced a dominant effort with the Kookaburra.
This time Brett’s bowling feat came against Numurkah’s D-grade side as he and his Northerners counterparts skittled the Blues for 36.
Brett was a key figure in Numurkah’s demise as he finished with figures of 6-7 from eight overs, including four maidens.
Unsurprisingly, Brett leads D-grade for total wickets taken with 18 at an average of 2.72.
No fudge from Pudge
The man they call Pudge tucked into the Tigers on Saturday afternoon.
Katandra B-grade skipper Andrew Nicholls finished with his best figures for the season after he took 6-37 from 23 overs against Central Park-St Brendan’s.
Opening the bowling as a ‘darty’ off-spinner, Nicholls had the Tigers 2-3 early as the Eagles hoped to defend a low tally of 138 at Deakin Reserve.
However, Nicholls and Katandra couldn’t contain Central Park-St Brendan’s for too long as the hosts skipped away to a comfortable victory.
Hopefully, the likes of Nicholls and batter Jack Nelson — who struck 45* in a lower-grade T20 match — can continue their hot form into this Saturday for the final round of 2024.
Northerners gets ducks in a row
It wouldn’t be a proper Saturday Sundries without some E-grade action.
Northerners hosted Waaia for round 10 on Saturday afternoon and, while things appeared bright for the home side as they sat on 1-30, a disastrous collapse was imminent.
Waaia started putting the ball in all the right places as Northerners lost 9-35 to be bowled out for 65.
The host’s innings included five ducks scattered throughout.
The Bombers came in and made light work of the run chase finishing on 3-72 after 15 overs.
All up the match lasted 29 overs.
