These Kangaroos hopped, skipped and jumped their way to a flag.

Two weeks ago, in the Kyabram District League 13-and-under netball semi-final, Tallygaroopna defeated Girgarre in a thriller by two goals.

After defeating Nagambie in last weekend’s preliminary final, Girgarre got its chance for revenge on Saturday morning when the Redlegs and Kangaroos squared off in the grand final at Mooroopna Recreation Reserve.

Tallygaroopna got off to a fast start, claiming a 12-8 lead midway through the second quarter.

However, Girgarre soon started to take control of the match.

At the end of the third quarter, the Kangaroos had tied the scores at 17 apiece but should have had the lead if not for some wayward passing.

In the fourth term, both sides gave it their all, with Kangaroos centre Daisy Woodcock demonstrating her class by protecting the drop of the ball on multiple occasions coming out of defence.

Redlegs goal shooter Shelby Manks was lethal in attack for Tally.

The Kangaroos were able to creep ahead in the fourth quarter and claim an impressive 25-22 win.

Girgarre coach Rachele Camin said everyone in her side stood up and performed well during the match.

“The girls played really well,” Camin said.

“They stuck to what they learned at training during the year and put it into action today.

“All nine of our players had a strong game today; Tally was very competitive and it was a fantastic game.”

Kangaroos goalkeeper Ruby McMeeken was a brick wall in defence for her side and received best-on-ground honours.

After the halfway point of the second term, Girgarre outscored Tallygaroopna 17-10.

Camin said that Girgarre’s strong comeback performance was due to the close group-wide connection and friendship within the Kangaroos’ team.

“We are really proud of these girls; some of them have been here since under-11s,” Camin said.

“They are all really good mates and they worked really hard as a team and supported each other.

“They are honestly just such a great bunch of girls.”
