The Shepparton Gators men’s Country Basketball League side kept its even record by splitting its doubleheader at the weekend, putting on a show in its first home game.
On Saturday, October 21, they returned to the Swamp after two weeks on the road to face Seymour Blasters.
It was a tightly contested first quarter, with Big V guard Tom Frame beginning a superb performance with a floater, getting fouled in the process for an and-one.
Seymour secured a narrow four-point lead at the end of the first before Shepparton hit back to level it up 36-all.
With 20 seconds left in the first half, Frame threw up a Hail Mary buzzer-beater, cashing it from range for three and blowing the lid off Shepparton Sports Stadium.
Frame’s scoring antics were duetted by fellow Big V baller Nick Dodd, who put up three triples of his own on the way to 22 points.
Frame pipped him by one for 23 points, a three-level scoring display from the free-throw line, three and a myriad of floaters, mid-range jump shots and layups.
Coach and player Dylan Wayman talked the talk and walked the walk for 11 points as his team pulled away with a dominant fourth quarter for a 77-68 win.
He backed this up with a 17-point performance the next day away against Wodonga Wolves, with four three-pointers.
The Gators rested the star duo of Frame and Dodd and fell to a 53-62 loss.
Elsewhere in the CBL, Gators Big V vice-captain Sam Beks put up 19 for Benalla Breakers against Myrtleford Saints.
He poured in five threes, including a half-court buzzer-beater of his own.
Also for Benalla, the Big V Gators’ centre Lachlan Kego put up 31 points across two games.
The CBL Gators sit fifth of the nine North East teams after round three with a record of two wins and two losses.
They return to the Swamp this weekend for a clash against Mansfield Eagles at Shepparton Sports Stadium, with tip-off at 8pm.
