The 2022 V/Line Cup got under way in the Shepparton region on Monday, bringing Victoria’s brightest young football talents together for a week of fierce competition.

This year’s carnival features three different divisions, being Boys Division One, Boys Division Two and Girls Division One.

Goulburn Murray is the team flying the flag for the local region, with players from across the Goulburn Valley set to don the iconic Bushrangers jumper for the week.

The first day of competition had a number of tight contests across the divisions.

In Boys Division One, Greater Western Victoria Rebels recorded a 28-point win over North East Border and Gippsland cruised to a 66-point triumph against Bendigo Pioneers.

Boys Division Two yielded the same winners, with GWV destroying North East by 125 points and Gippsland recording a 40-point win over Bendigo Pioneers.

While in Girls Division One, North East Border prevailed by 17 points over GWV and Gippsland made it three-from-three on the day with a 22-point triumph over Bendigo.

Goulburn Murray had a first round bye in all three divisions.

News photographer Megan Fisher was at Princess Park and captured the action between Gippsland and Bendigo in the Division One Girls.
