Goulburn Murray Lawn Tennis Association competitions were back with a bang on Saturday after seven weeks off.

In round 10 of GM1 division one matches, there were two close battles between first and second (Velvet Tigers and Numurkah Warriors) and third and fourth (Shepparton Lawn Average Joes and Shepparton Lawn The Valley).

The Average Joes and Valley match went down to the wire as the score finished on six sets apiece, with Average Joes claiming victory, winning 77 games to 72.

Both teams started the match in hot form as they traded sets one-for-one, with the score sitting at three sets apiece halfway through the match.

From there, Average Joes looked to take control of the match as they won the following two sets.

But not to be outdone, The Valley stormed home to win three out of the four sets to tie the score on six sets apiece, unfortunately losing on the tiebreak.

The top-of-the-table clash was another tight contest as the Warriors claimed victory over the Velvet Tigers seven sets to five.

The Warriors stormed out of the gates, winning the first three sets, and never really looked back as they also won the games 66-64 to claim top spot on the ladder.

Three rounds remain in the season, with a semi-final between second and third on the ladder set to be played on March 2 before the final against first place on March 16.

In Goulburn Murray’s second division, Tatura defeated Numurkah (7-3) and Cobram beat Nathalia (7-4). Results from other matches hadn’t been confirmed.

While in GM3, Kyabram Redbacks defeated Mooroopna (11-2), Nathalia beat Cobram (8-5), Tatura conquered Kialla Park Old Students (11-2) and Numurkah overcome Kyabram Bombers (10-3).
