The Shepparton Gators women struggled in their first home game of the Country Basketball League season, but one of their players was a shining light.
After splitting their first two away games with a win and a loss, they returned to the Swamp for a clash against Seymour Blasters on Saturday, October 21.
The Gators were under the pump from the jump, falling to a 10-0 deficit just minutes into the contest.
They fought back tooth and nail to only trail by three by the end of the first quarter.
From there, the more experienced Seymour side pulled away from the young Gators, securing a convincing 72-41 win.
Seymour’s Kasey Lennox was a dominant force, making the paint her own with 22 points, including eight two pointers and six one pointers.
Despite the loss, Montana Burke caught fire for Shepparton.
She put up a team-high 15 points and splashed all three of Shepparton’s three pointers.
Burke was reliable from all ranges, throwing in a handful of long two-pointer jump shots.
Tamica Tunumafono contributed with six of her own and young gun Alex Marshall was impressive with five.
The Gators are back home this weekend to take on Wodonga Wolves at Shepparton Sports Stadium with tip-off scheduled for 6pm.
