Get set, go to try netball and footy

The Auskick and Woolworths Net Set Go programs are set to commence in coming weeks with local families encouraged to get involved.

Corowa Rutherglen is gearing up for a fun-filled sporting season as Auskick and Woolworths Net Set Go programs are set to commence soon.

Young children in the community will have the chance to join in on the action and learn the fundamental skills of Australian Rules Football and netball.

The Auskick program, which is designed for children aged four and a half to 10 years, focuses on providing a safe and enjoyable introduction to Australian Rules Football. Participants will learn the basics of the game, including kicking, marking, handballing, and tackling, in a supportive and fun environment.

Similarly, the Net Set Go program run by Corowa and District Netball Association is aimed at children aged five to 11 who are interested in learning the fundamentals of netball. This program will focus on teaching participants the basic skills of the game, such as passing, shooting, and footwork, in a fun and inclusive environment.

Both programs will run on Friday nights at John Foord Oval with training set to commence in the coming weeks. Children will have the opportunity to learn from experienced coaches and develop their skills alongside their peers.

This year Net Set Go will be led once again by Felicity Clifton and Mereeta Corcoran. The first training session will be held on April 28, 2023, at John Ford Oval Corowa.

Auskick will have a ‘come and try’ opening night on Friday, March 24 where everyone registered plus those wanting to try it out before they register are invited for a fun first night and free BBQ for all.

According to the organisers, the Auskick and Net Set Go programs are a great way for children to get involved in sports and develop their physical and social skills.

“Auskick is open to both boys and girls and it’s a bit of fun while learning some fundamental footy and coordination skills,” Auskick coordinator Matt Witherden said.

"We're excited to be offering these programs in Corowa again this year," Georgie Bruce added.

"It's a fantastic opportunity for kids to learn new skills, make new friends, and have fun in a safe and supportive environment."

Parents are encouraged to register their children for the programs as soon as possible, as spaces are limited.

Corowa Rutherglen Auskick and CADNA Net Set Go are both independent and volunteer ran organisations offering netball and football skill development to all young players in the Corowa and District region.

Auskick kicks off officially on March 31 at 5:30pm, followed by 3 weeks off for Good Friday and school holidays, and will recommence again after that.

The Net Set Go players will train from 5:00pm - 5:30pm so that players can train in both netball and football codes. The program runs for the 10-week duration of term 2.
