Girgarre Football Netball Club hosted a barefoot bowls night at Stanhope Bowls Club to welcome new members and reconnect with old ones on Friday, February 16, before the season begins.

Players gathered for a barbecue and a game of lawn bowls and are excited to get back on the court and field for the upcoming season.

“We’ve already got good numbers,” president Daniel Arnold said.

“We are hoping for a good season on and off the field.”

With many players returning for the new season and wanting to catch up after hours of gruelling training, the night was filled with fun for the whole family, with many of the teammates’ children joining in.

“I have lived in Girgarre my whole life,” netballer Madeline Pangrazio said.

“I love playing for Girgarre. It’s my home.”

With the barefoot bowls being the year’s first social event for Girgarre, with many more to come, the night was a lot of fun.

The kids enjoyed the face painting as the adults got ready for a friendly game of bowls.

“After pre-season we thought we would get everyone together,” Pangrazio said.

A newcomer, Charles Lowe, is excited about the new season after he left Lancaster Football Club for Girgarre.

“A few mates played out here,” Lowe said.

“The team is looking good.”

With its first game on April 13, playing Tallygaroopna, Girgarre is ready to return to the field and play the sports it loves.
