The sound of a goal net rustling repeated like revolver fire throughout a score-happy weekend of Goulburn Valley Hockey Association action.

In two A-grade men’s fixtures, a total of 27 combined goals were scored as Shepparton Youth Club and Strikers flexed their offensive muscles on Friday night.

The latter set the tone in the earlier match with a 12-0 upheaval of Mooroopna.

Former Victorian youth representative Sam Holland led the line with a five-goal performance, while Xavier McBain and Kieran Murphy drilled the remaining seven scoring shots for Strikers.

Chris Mills was the victors’ best on the turf, while Andrew Kennedy battled valiantly for Mooroopna despite the loss.

However, the Strikers’ demolition job wasn’t even the biggest win on the night.

The 8pm time slot had SYC Scorchers square off against Echuca Moama and there was only to be one winner as the former stormed to a remarkable 15-0 triumph.

Matthew Irwin’s stick ran hot as he fired off five goals, Seth Watson and Leigh Forte netted three apiece, while Ryan Mackenzie and Steve Child scored the other two goals.

Women’s GVHA matches welcomed fewer goals — but closer results — than the men.

Echuca Moama pushed its neck out to notch a 3-2 win over SYC thanks to strikes from Agostina Traglia, Isobella Keillor and Sally Thompson, which lifted the River Rats up into first.

In the round's other match, Euroa ticked off its second victory of the season by tip-toeing past Benalla 2-1.

Higher up the state-level pyramid, Mooroopna cooked up its largest winning margin of the Women’s Vic League Two campaign against Craigieburn Falcons.

The Cats were ruthless on the attack, slapping goals left and right to clip the Falcons’ wings 8-1.

Kim Starkey, Kim Broadhurst, and Tegan Summers each recorded a brace and Kerry Gannon and Alicia Cornelius also got in on the act.
