A week after the Goulburn Murray Lawn Tennis Association’s top division was totally bunched up, Velvet Tigers have stepped up and put some serious breathing room between themselves and the pack.

With a crushing 9-89 to 3-59 victory over bottom-placed Shepparton Lawn The Valley, the Nathalia-based Tigers have moved more than a game clear of second-placed Numurkah Warriors.

After Robbie Mifka and Jeremy O’Brien drew first blood in the doubles to bring The Valley within one set, the Tigers locked in and swept the remaining rubbers to run away quickly.

Those Warriors may have done the Tigers a favour on the way, reining in Shepparton Lawn Average Joes with a comfortable 8-77 to 4-59 win to cap a poor weekend for the Shepparton teams.
