With the action heating up on the netball courts and football fields, there’s been plenty of news being made off it recently.

Goulburn Valley League has opted to endorse that its under-16 football competition finish up after it introduced the format in 2020.

The league endorses that the competition revert back to the Goulburn Murray Junior League.

Last week, a GVL club posted on social media the message that was sent out to all 12 member clubs which detailed the league’s reason for endorsing a change in the junior structure.

The league said the inability to have all 12 member clubs field a side and the inability to have Goulburn Valley Football Umpires Association appointed umpires adjudicate the under-16 matches.

Shepparton United, Benalla and Mansfield did not field a side in the under-16 competition this season.

The message highlighted the league sought feedback from its clubs via two surveys.

Eight out of the 12 clubs voted in favour of the under-16 competition being removed from the league’s structure.

The league was contacted for comment.

Meanwhile, Jacqui Hudgson was elected chair of the league board at a recent meeting.

Hudgson has filled the position of acting board chair since May after David Roff took a leave of absence.

“We are pleased to advise that after a short period of leave David Roff has returned to duties with the GVL board,” a league statement read.

“To ensure consistency as we fast approach finals, David has stepped down as league chairman and at our recent board meeting Jacqui Hudgson was elected league chair and Freddo McMahon was elected deputy chair.

“The board remain committed to ensuring a successful finals series as planning begins for 2023.”

Lastly, the GVL has revealed this year’s presentation night will be held at the Ballantyne Centre at Tatura.

The 2022 Morrison Medal and Wellman Family Medal winners will be crowned on Wednesday night, September 21.
