Goulburn Valley soccer talents recognised at CVL awards

Four Goulburn Valley talents were recognised at Bendigo Amateur Soccer League’s night of nights on Saturday.

Celebrating a successful year in the Central Victorian League One men’s competition, Shepparton South talent Will Keenan secured the top division’s player of the season award.

Also picking up the league’s leading goal-scorer award with 29 goals, Keenan’s remarkable year included a five-goal game against Strathdale in round seven, two four goal hauls and two hat-tricks.

The attacking Keenan ended the count with 18 votes, one ahead of teammate Sean Grant and six ahead of third-placed Cody Sellwood of Tatura.

League Two women’s Player of the Year: Tatura’s Colette Suter.

In the League Two women’s competition, Tatura’s Colette Suter was acknowledged for her efforts with a Player of the Year award, with Suter scoring 24 goals.

Meanwhile in the League One men’s reserves, Shepparton South’s fox in the box Rob Harmeston was recognised for his goal-scoring efforts, slotting 29 goals for the season.

Rising Tatura talent Aaron Niglia secured the Mel McGovern Medal as Youth Player of the Year, along with the leading goal-scorer award for his 34 goals.

The future star ended the vote count on 28 votes, 10 ahead of runner-up Nicholas Mori from Shepparton South.

Capping an incredible year for Goulburn Valley sides in the CVL, each of the local clubs will be hoping to keep their squads together for another championship tilt next season.
