Barooga travelled south to tackle Numurkah in round eight of the Murray Football League.

Despite their best efforts, the Hawks came up short.

The first quarter ended with Barooga trailing by 13 points, 4.2.26 to 2.1.13.

Things did not improve in the second term, as Numurkah kicked five goals to take a 40-point margin into the main break.

The third quarter saw Barooga stem the bleeding, with the scores 13.7.85 to 6.5.41 at three-quarter time.

Each side scored three goals in the final term, as Numurkah cruised to a 16.8.104 to 9.7.61 victory.

The visitors’ Riley Gow was the game’s leading goal-scorer with six majors.

Numurkah’s best players included Patrick Riordan, Zach McKeown, Kade O’Dwyer, Nathan Hicks, Tom Scott and Jarrod Holmes.

Barooga’s standout players included Gow, Angus Cameron, Callum Leighton-Daly, Nicholas Gooch, Brodey Rudd and Riley Brooks.

Numurkah midfielder Tom Scott said the outcome was great for the club.

“We were a bit injury depleted at half-time, but we held together and stuck to our structure,” he said.

“We have had a few tough weeks facing some of the top sides, but it was good to get the win before the bye.”

• Cobram had a bye this week.
