Elite calibre wheels-up BMX action will jump to life in Shepparton next year.

The opening days of the AusCycling BMX Racing National Series will spin into gear at the Shepparton Cycling and BMX precinct, pencilled in for April 26-27, 2025.

A glut of Australia’s best riders will touch down in the Goulburn Valley for rounds one and two of the series, which is expected to draw more than 1500 participants, officials, families and spectators to town.

The event is forecast to pump more than $1 million into the local economy, with Greater Shepparton City Council chief executive Fiona Le Gassick highlighting the region’s rising status as a sporting event capital.

“Our region excels in many sports, but BMX is one that we love seeing return to our region,” Le Gassick said.

“It will be fantastic to see so many make the trip to Greater Shepparton from right around the country, staying in our accommodation and visiting our local businesses, cafes, retail shops and visitor attractions.

“As we continue to secure these major events in our region, it strengthens our status as the regional sporting event capital of Australia.

“Council is delighted that this will be the first event held at the Shepparton cycling and BMX precinct since the construction of the new pavilion and we are excited for this event in 2025.”

Shepparton is fast earning a reputation as a leading Australian destination for BMX racing.

In recent years, the Packham St precinct has hosted state, national and international events such as the 2019 and 2023 BMX National Championships, the 2020 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup and the 2021 Victorian State BMX Championships.

The venue has a stellar track record for staging top-tier BMX competitions and it’s set to get even better.

Works are under way for a new two-storey multi-use events pavilion that will offer elevated views of the BMX track and create an improved atmosphere and experience for spectators, while serving as a new hub for events and community gatherings.

The upgrade falls under the Regional Sports Infrastructure Program which includes improvements to the BMX track and starting hill along with new lighting for the adjacent velodrome.

Community Sport Minister Ros Spence praised the cutting edge facilities and congratulated Shepparton BMX Club on the announcement.

“Shepparton BMX Club is one of the premier BMX tracks in our state and will be an even better venue with new facilities being delivered for riders,” she said.

“I’d like to congratulate Shepparton BMX Club on this announcement and look forward to seeing Australia’s best riders participating here in the 2025 AusCycling BMX Racing National Series and for years to come.”
