Rochester is the latest Goulburn Valley League top-six side to suffer a drubbing at the hands of Euroa this season.

The Magpies cruised to a comfortable 17.8 (110) to 4.4 (28) triumph at Memorial Oval on Saturday.

Scott Rowan’s men were devastating from start to finish, running over a beleaguered Tigers outfit which was hampered by up to 14 senior players on the injury table.

A blistering start from the Magpies had them five goals to the good at the first change on Saturday afternoon, tightening their grip on the game in the second by keeping the visitors scoreless.

“The way we started set the tone, it’s really pleasing to get another good start, it was something we were really focused on before the game,” Magpies coach Rowan said.

“We had a little lapse in the third, they lifted their pressure around the ball and flooded back defensively like Benalla did to us a couple of weeks ago.

“Once we got through that, we were able to split the game open a bit.”

Euroa’s forward weapons flexed their muscles again on Saturday, with eight different Magpies helping themselves to a slice of the scoring.

Jett Trotter led the way with a cool six goals to his name, while Tristan Davies was also clinical and added four to his tally.

Half-forward Lachlan Hill was named Euroa’s best, with his coach pleased his forward unit was able to share the load.

“Jetty hadn’t kicked a few in a while so it was good for him to get among the goals,” he said.

“The way our forwards work it gives us a good spread of goal scorers — they’re all very experienced footballers.

“Lachy Hill’s work is amazing and gives his other forwards a chance to get off the chain, his work rate along with Jack Frewen in the backline is second-to-none, they’re really crucial for us.”

The win further bolsters the Magpies’ top-four intentions, while Rochester falls to sixth after its third defeat in as many weeks.
