Echuca was at the apex of its powers in this period, putting on 6.4 (40), while shutting out the Magpies completely.

A plus-35 advantage in disposals was a key indicator of how the quarter went for both sides.

Euroa just couldn’t get its hands on the ball nearly as much as Echuca and was deprived of scoring opportunities.

Echuca won the clearance battle 22-7 in the quarter and had a particular advantage when the ball returned to the centre circle, earning six centre clearances to none, and from throw-ins, where they led 10-2.

Euroa was much more competitive from ball-up clearances, only trailing the Murray Bombers 6-5 in that metric.

When the Magpies did have the ball they just weren’t able to make use of it effectively.

Euroa’s game average 59 per cent disposal efficiency declined to just 54 per cent in the third, with the culprit the being Magpies’ long game.

Only 18 of their 42 kicks (43 per cent) in the quarter found their mark as Euroa wasn’t able to establish clean possession away from the contest.

In contrast, Echuca was more effective with the ball than usual in the third, improving its game average 66 per cent disposal efficiency to 69 per cent in the quarter.

Morris a menace

Echuca’s big man Kane Morris was the best performer in the Murray Bombers’ third-quarter demolition job, topping the game with 69 ranking points in the period.

Morris rose up for 11 hit-outs in the game, directing four to advantage, while also earning two clearances, two inside-50s and reeling in three marks, all inside 50, two of which were contested.

The Echuca tall converted two of those opportunities into goals and was involved in a total of five of the Murray Bombers’ 10 scores in the third.
