Goulburn Valley League A-grade netball table-topper Seymour continued its impressive run of form on Saturday afternoon, defeating Kyabram at Kings Park.
The 61-to-37 round 14 victory was a solid one from the Lions, with the team building on its early lead throughout the contest.
In the first two quarters things were relatively even, with Seymour holding a seven-goal lead at quarter time, before the Bombers reduced the margin to six at the main break.
After half time it was all one-way traffic, with Seymour finding its groove to run out convincing winners.
Seymour coach Ellie O’Sullivan said there were both positives and negatives to take away from the result.
“I think there were patches of that game where we were certainly flat-footed and Kyabram brought a really good intensity to the game so I think that there is still so much we can improve on in that sense,” O’Sullivan said.
“But I think to finish the last quarter with such intensity and put a bit more scoreboard pressure on was certainly positive.”
Nakita Singe performed well for the Lions on the day with a number of turnovers in goal defence, while Casey Adamson and Jess Lallo also put in good shifts.
The win is another important step in the finals direction for the Lions and O’Sullivan said it would help build the side’s confidence further.
“I think we have a lot of experience in the sense that we know finals are a different ball game so we just want to keep our heads level and do the work so that we can hopefully come out firing in finals,” she said.
For Kyabram, it was another disappointing result on the court and with coach Sara Kent away, Rhianna Hilton stepped up to mentor the team.
Hilton said the Bombers tried hard throughout the game, with some tired legs battling through.
“They’re an elite side and I think we really took it to them in the first half,” Hilton said.
“To be only down by six around the half-time mark was something we were pretty pleased with but we’re building and we’re growing and taking it up to the good sides.”
Hollie Reid played well in the mid-court for the visitors while Jemma Hall performed in defence and Chicky Vick also stood out.
The result sees Seymour hold on to first position on the ladder, with the Lions not losing since round three, while Kyabram sits in 10th.
