Gymnasts put on a musical showcase

Flipstars athletes put on an amazing Musical and Medleys showcase.

Local gymnastics superstars are proving they can do more than just tumble, performing as part of a musical spectacular earlier this month.

The Flipstars students featured in a Musical and Medleys showcase of 14 performances at the Deniliquin RSL Club on December 4.

Performance gymnastics includes gymnastics skills, dance, tumbling and acrobatics.

Coach Rachel Bucholtz said this year was the first time the students have put on a show of this magnitude, with costumes, props, special effect lighting etc.

About 180 athletes performed to a crowd of about 450.

Adding to the showcase was a musical performance from soloist Sarah Duffery.

Athletes were joined by South West Music choir participants to open the show, singing ‘A Million Dreams’ from The Greatest Showman.

The opening number was rehearsed with the assistance of SWM head of music Paul Young.

As part of the evening, the coaches’ awards were given out and Connor Sampson was presented with the Rising Star Award.

Coaches’ awards went to Violet Fisicaro, Lucy Tubb, Monique Rochford, Gabrielle Jansen, Isla Moodie, Mia Booth, Cormick Hardman, Chelsea Weir and Amelie Bulmer.
