Euroa secured its first win of the Cricket Shepparton Haisman Shield season on Saturday, picking up a 30-run win over Karramomus.

Welcoming the Bloods to the Euroa Friendly Society Recreation Reserve, the Magpies managed to come out on top in what was described as a “pendulum” of a game.

With momentum swinging in each side’s favour throughout the contest, Euroa coach Andrew Squires was happy his team managed to get over the line.

“It was great reward for effort for the boys,” Squires said.

“It’s always tough trying to keep guys motivated when you’re not getting the results you want, but it sort of fell into place on Saturday for us and to get across the line was fantastic.”

Sent in to bat first, the home side took its time putting runs on the board early, with Scott Hamilton (33) and Nicholas Hill (49) called on to stand up.

Impressive spells at the end of the innings helped flesh out the side’s total further, with Euroa setting a score of 7-181 for Karramomus to chase.

Starting brightly, Bloods openers Mitch McGrath and Cooper Delahey put on a 74-run partnership, however, things soon went south.

Losing three wickets on 74, the Bloods were in trouble and while Luke Forge and Zac Groombridge reached double figures the rest of the side fell cheaply, with the team all out for 151.

“We started off struggling a little bit, then we sort of worked our way back into the game and then we went through another bit of a down period and then the tail wagged and we got a total that we thought was defensible,” Squires said.

“It was actually a really good game.”

Now heading into the Christmas break, Squires said his side would come back next year ready to hit the ground running.

“It was a really good game to be involved in yesterday, both sides, just two young sides having a crack, playing in good spirit,” he said.

“It was just such a good game with a lot of really good entertaining cricketers involved.”

The result has Euroa move to six points in 12th on the ladder, while Karramomus sit in 10th on seven points.
