After a rocky start to the year Nagambie continued its Cricket Shepparton Haisman Shield purple patch on Saturday.
Taking on Karramomus at Shepparton’s Vibert Reserve in the round five encounter, the Lakers produced a well-rounded team performance to get over the line.
Winning the toss and electing to bat Nagambie started strong through opener Jonathan Moore (27), while Luke Nolan (74), Mark Nolan (46) and Zac Winter-Irving (42 off 26) contributed to an impressive 5-217 total.
This good form continued into the side’s bowling spell, with Mark Nolan taking the wicket of Mitch McGrath with the second ball of the innings.
Despite this setback the Bloods rallied, with Jayden Dhosi orchestrating an impressive turnaround to make the score 1-90 before a catastrophic collapse had the team sitting on 4-92 soon after.
While the side would make its way to 130, the score was well short of what was required.
Speaking after the game Nagambie captain Mark Nolan said his side constructed the innings well.
“We didn’t go too hard too early,” Nolan said.
“We saved up plenty of wickets for the back end, we would’ve liked a little bit better of a start, but it was good to capitalise through the middle and then at the end Zac Winter-Irving hit a real quick-fire 40 which gave us the momentum heading into the second innings.”
Coming into the game following the side’s first win of the year Nagambie now sits on 2-1-2, with the opportunity presenting itself for a positive record going into Christmas.
“Last year we were sort of on the back foot at the start of the year and weren’t in a good spot at Christmas,” Nolan said.
“So hopefully we can go next game, get a win and go 3-2 and I think we’ll play our best cricket after Christmas.”
The result has Nagambie sitting in eighth spot on the ladder, while Karramomus are now in 10th.
