Katandra continued its run of Cricket Shepparton Haisman Shield form on Saturday, producing an 82-run win over Waaia.

Welcoming the Bombers to their home deck, the Eagles produced a solid 9-184 with the bat before holding the visitors to 102 in response.

Headlining the result was another strong performance from Jedd Wright, with the all-rounder hitting 88 runs and taking 2-11.

Joining Wright as a standout was teammate Ryleigh Shannon (4-21), while Waaia’s Jordan Cleeland took an impressive 3-12 for the losing side.

Reflecting on the positive result, Katandra captain Ben Clurey said it was a good effort on all fronts.

“We were happy with how it went,” Clurey said.

“We batted first, Jedd and Nath (Hickey) did a terrific job despite being pretty conducive out there, Waaia bowled really well especially early, so to hang around and put on a big partnership like they did really set us up in the first innings.

“Then with the ball I think all the guys did a fantastic job.

“To get them out for around 100 was a terrific effort.”

Early on in the Eagles’ innings Waaia was on top, with wickets to Aaron Shelton and Jesse Trower having the side at 2-23.

Yet this was where Wright and Hickey would hit their stride, with a 123-run partnership steering the ship in the right direction.

Despite a bright start from the Bombers, consistent pressure with the ball got Katandra over the line.

The result has the Eagles move to second on the ladder, while Waaia drops to fifth.

Yet to lose a game, Clurey said his team had identified the game against Waaia and the upcoming match with Mooroopna as key to seeing where the side was at.

“It sets our season up in good stead I suppose,” he said.

“Everyone always bangs on about setting up a spot in the top six (before Christmas), so we’re really happy.”
