Australia has been restarted after a tight and scintillating Melbourne Cup Day.
Following a long Tuesday spent celebrating “the race that stops a nation”, tired, hungover eyes packed into offices on Wednesday morning.
However, one Euroa family will still be riding high after finding success on one of the biggest days on the country's sporting calendar.
The Hayes brothers, Ben, JD and former AFL player Will, had a total of 10 horses run at Flemington on Tuesday.
The brothers head training operation Lindsay Park Racing, which is based south of Euroa.
Tuesday's racing could not have had a better start for the Hayes family, with Lindsay Park Racing securing a one, two, three finish in race one with horses Tycoon Star, Bacash and Shining Smile, respectively.
The Hayes’ next found success in race six, when their four-year-old stallion Apulia, ridden by jockey Mark Zahra, finished third.
Finally, in race 10, Lindsay Park Racing secured another impressive result by finishing fourth and fifth with Marble Arch and Rheinberg, respectively.
Meanwhile, Shepparton-born horse trainer Liam Howley enjoyed having champion jockey James McDonald on his three-year-old gelding Opening Address in race two on Tuesday.
McDonald calmly rode the Liam Howley Racing-trained horse to victory down the famous Flemington straight.
While the Melbourne Cup has now been and gone, the Hayes’ attention will be focused on Oaks Day on Thursday, also at Flemington.
Lindsay Park Racing has six horses racing across the day.
Bold Bastille, a three-year-old filly with Zahra as her jockey is firming as one of the favourites for race seven.
Meanwhile, Poifect, a four-year-old mare set to be ridden by jockey Michael Dee will head into race four as one to watch.
With Melbourne Cup Day and Derby Day complete, Oaks Day and Champion Stakes Day (Saturday, November 9) will round out the 2024 Melbourne Cup Carnival.
