There is yet another Shepparton United youngster to keep an eye on in the football ranks.

Blake Sofra will become the third footballer from the club to don the Big V this year when he runs out for Victoria in the upcoming under-15 boys School Sports Australia National Championships.

Sofra joins fellow United teenagers Oscar Ryan (under-18) and Riley Onley (under-16) to make the state team in 2023.

The 15-year-old on-baller said he was over the moon when he found out he made selection in one of the two Vic outfits.

“It was a great feeling (finding out). I loved the experience and I’m looking forward to this week. I can’t wait,” Sofra said.

“I look up to both of them (Riley and Oscar) and it’s really good for the club to have them at that high level.”

The Notre Dame student follows in the footsteps of his stepbrother Zavier Maher, who made a handful of appearances at state level during his teenage years.

He is of similar ilk to his older brother too.

A quick and skilful midfielder who can go forward and hit the scoreboard.

The young gun was named one of the top performers for Goulburn Murray Junior League during last month’s interleague matches.

“This year’s been great; I haven’t played the past couple of weeks though (for United) to rest up for the upcoming carnival,” Sofra said.

A trip to Ballarat for the week-long national championships, which kicks off on Saturday, awaits the youngster.

Sofra said his work ethic and determination helped him reach the state squad, while he shouted out his two parents for their help in his football exploits.

“We had three trials and then a camp in Melbourne once we made the squad,” he said.

“It was great, I got heaps out of it and I learned heaps. The process for me was working hard and putting in the extra effort.

“Yeah 100 per cent, always need to thank Mum (Danielle) and Dad (Ric) for everything they do.”

The national championships begin on Saturday and conclude the following weekend on July 29.
