‘I have thrived in this environment’: Gun midcourter Casey Adamson is loving every moment back home at Seymour
The motive behind star midcourter Casey Adamson’s return to Seymour in the lead up to the 2022 season was simple — to play with her mates.
Beginning her netball journey with Seymour as a junior, Adamson developed her talents alongside many of the girls currently plying their trade in A-grade, and has already climbed the Goulburn Valley League A-grade mountain as a Lion back in 2015.
Since then, she has continued to take her game to new heights, turning into one of the stars of the Victoria Netball League with Boroonda Express.
But the bond with her friends at Seymour was always going to bring her back to the maroon and gold, and now, some six years later, she has the opportunity to play off for glory on GVL grand final day again.
“It is awesome (to be back in a grand final with Seymour) I played in 2015 and 2016 and we won one and lost one, so it is good to get back to Seymour and play with some of my best friends,” Adamson said.
“I've loved coming back and playing with this group of girls and being part of what has been such a rewarding journey throughout the season.
“And yeah how good it is to be in a granny!”
This year has been the biggest season of Adamson’s career, with the 24-year-old keeping up her VNL commitments and being a training partner with Super Netball team Collingwood alongside playing for her home town Lions.
She even managed to make her first professional appearance back in June, coming in as a late replacement after COVID-19 rampaged through Collingwood ahead of a fixture against cross-town rival Melbourne Vixens.
However, she said coming back to Seymour at every opportunity has been “the best thing for her” this season.
“It has been a big, big, big season, looking back over it I’ve played for five teams this year, so I’m really looking forward to next week and then some time off,” she said.
“But the best thing for me has been coming back to my local football netball club to play and getting around the community, I have just thrived in this environment.
“My partner also plays for Seymour, so to go to the same club as him has been great, my best friend is also playing, so its been great to pull on the Lions colours again and play with my mates.”
As for this weekend, Adamson presents as pivotal to Seymour’s chances of repeating as premiers, with the Lions triumphing over this week’s opponent Shepparton United in the 2019 decider.
Looking on from the sidelines back in 2019, she said she could not wait to take the court this time around.
“I was looking on from the sidelines when they won that game in 2019 and partied with them afterwards, so hopefully I can be part of it on the court this time,” she said.
“Shepparton United are a strong team though, they have a lot of great players and experience in big games, so for us it will just be a case of playing our own game and sticking to the process.
“If we get around each other and maintain that positive energy we will be hard to beat.”
