Two Cobram sporting giants will join forces on Wednesday evening with the football and soccer clubs set to train together.
The cross-code training session will involve senior and reserve sides from the Cobram Tigers and the division one and two men’s teams from the Cobram Roar, with a goal of brining the community closer together.
Roar coach Vince Iannucci said with the two men’s senior teams at the top of their respective ladders the joint session is a great way to bring the community together.
“It’s a great way for the clubs to get to know each other,” Iannucci said.,
“Tigers coach John Brunskill gave me a call last week and he said ‘look do you mind if we train with you boys for your next training session’ and I said absolutely come along.
“It’s about really getting behind every sporting club, not just footy and soccer but all of it.
“We’ve got a massive night planned and I think that everyone’s going to try and have a bit of fun with it.”
Tigers coach John Brunskill was equally as excited for the crossover, with the mentor saying it will be good to give his side a break from football.
“It’s good for the community,” Brunskill said.
“We all know what’s happened with COVID-19 over the past couple of years so anything we can do to bring the community together and get them up and about always helps.”
Brunskill said Iannucci would take the session, with running and soccer drills set to help “take our mind completely off footy”.
“Whether you’re winning or losing its important to get your mind off the game and your mind away from footy, it’s hard at this time of year with the weather, it’s cold, it’s generally miserable so it changes it up a bit,” Brunskill said.
With no football action on this weekend supporters are encouraged to head along to the Apex Reserve on Sunday afternoon, with the top of the table Cobram Roar set to take on the Albury Hotspurs at 3pm.
