Shepparton Swans are out to secure a Goulburn Valley League B-reserve netball title at Deakin Reserve on Sunday morning.
Standing in their way will be Echuca, a club with many fronts to compete on across the day’s football and netball finals.
Echuca (17-1) had the edge in their first regular-season encounter, but the Swans (13-4-1) would exact a double-dose of revenge in the round 14 meeting, where they spoiled the Murray Bombers’ dreams of a perfect 18-0 run.
To broaden the confidence even more, they nabbed the chocolates by a solitary goal in their semi-final meeting at Euroa to earn a week’s rest before Sunday’s big game.
Understandably, despite the nerves, Swans captain Chloe Earle sees little need to tinker or experiment.
“We come prepared and I think we just need to come in with our heads in it,” Earle, 19, said.
“(Echuca) is a very mature team, very strong on the body, but of course everyone is.
“It’s just another game, that’s what I always like to say.”
Earle was glowing in speaking of the younger contingent at the club that has contributed to the campaign.
“We have a few newbies this year, but they’ve slotted straight in and picked up our team energy,” Earle said.
“We’ve had a lot of coaching help around the club and even under-17s coming up to train with us and help.
One can imagine the obvious benefits of abundant youth on the netball court and Earle believes the side’s pace should hold it in good stead to deal with a more physical Echuca outfit.
“We have quite a young side this year, probably one of the youngest we’ve ever had at Swans,’’ she said.
“We’ve got a fast little zippy team.”
