Garry Jacobson will return to his old stomping ground this weekend when Winton Motor Raceway makes a triumphant return to the Supercars Championship.
The Shepparton local will cut hot laps around his home track for the first time since Winton’s last appearance on the race calendar in 2019.
Winton is stop five on the championship schedule and Jacobson enters this round ranked 22nd overall.
Jacobson’s last appearance at the Perth SuperNight brought mixed results for the talented driver.
Jacobson secured qualifying spots of 14th and 12th at Wanneroo Raceway, which was followed by mechanical issues with the car during the race.
The 30-year-old has shown superb race pace this season, highlighted by his rollicking top-10 efforts in round three at Albert Park.
If the qualifying pace and race performances are able to align, this weekend promises plenty of excitement for the local talent.
Only a short trip along the Midland Hwy, Winton is a place that holds special memories for Jacobson.
The PremiAirRacing driver said he was determined to continue his eye-catching performances from the first four rounds.
“I grew up in Shepperton which is only 45 minutes away, so this is my home round, and I know the team and I are hungrier than ever to keep improving those qualifying results and turn them into strong race results — hopefully we can have some hometown luck fall our way,” Jacobson said.
“I have raced at Winton with Supercars once before in 2019, with a best qualifying result of eighth and a best race result of 18th.
“With the great news this week of Subway renewing as naming partners for the rest of this year I am definitely feeling uplifted heading into the weekend, and I am very confident we can improve those PBs significantly.”
It has been an exciting week for Jacobson and his PremiAir Racing team.
Earlier this week, Subway and PremiAir Racing extended their partnership.
The decision will see Jacobson steer his ZB Commodore with the striking Subway livery emblazoned on it for the remainder of the 2022 Supercars season.
Subway extended the deal following the bright start to the season from Jacobson and the PremiAir Racing team.
Head of marketing at Subway, Rodica Titeica, said she was excited to see the partnership continue.
“We wanted to partner with both the PremiAir Racing Team and Garry because we think they’re the best in the business,” Titeica said.
“Like Subway, they’ve come from humble beginnings. It’s an exciting opportunity for us.”
Every session of Winton SuperSprint will be broadcast live on Fox Sports 506 and streamed on Kayo, with highlights on the Seven Network on Saturday and Sunday.
