Shepparton’s own Supercars exponent Garry Jacobson will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing start to the season on Saturday when he competes in his 100th Supercars race.
Jacobson and his PremiAir Racing team had a disappointing weekend at the Sydney Supernight earlier this month, with an 18th-placed finish and a DNF in race one and two respectively.
This weekend will be different for the Shepparton-born star, with the Supercar roadshow hitting Tasmania, and race one being Jacobson’s 100th.
Speaking to Supercars.com ahead of the weekend’s racing, Jacobson reflected on his career to date.
“Through your junior ranks, you get used to winning and thinking you’re the best driver in the country,” Jacobson said.
“Then you get to this level and it’s such a big reality check.”
It was anything but an ideal start to the season for Jacobson, with an 18th-placed finish in race one in Sydney, followed by a career first failure to finish due to oil pressure problems in race two leaving him at the bottom of the drivers’ championship.
“There were little things you trip over in an environment that was essentially six weeks old,” Jacobson told Supercars.com
“We’re trying not to read too much into that one weekend.
“On a whole, there was a lot of promise and we have something to build on.
“The opportunity to keep getting at it is something I really appreciate.”
With race three, four and five of the Supercars Championship happening this weekend in Tasmania, racing fans are sure to see Jacobson at his best.
It is no small achievement to compete in 100 Supercars races and after a disappointing showing last time round, Jacobson will be sure to put his best foot forward this weekend, and hopefully climb his way up the grid.
Practice for the Tasmania SuperSprint begins on Saturday at 9.50am, with the first race of the weekend starting at 4.55 pm.
Race four begins on Sunday at 1pm, while race five starts at 3.55 pm.
