Jerilderie netballer, Berrigan footballer voted league’s best

Ella Arnold won the netball best-and-fairest in the Picola League vote count last night.

Two local players have been named the best in their respective sports and grades at the Picola League Senior Vote Count on Monday night.

Jerilderie A-grade netballer Ella Arnold has been awarded the Picola District Netball League’s highest individual home and away honour.

At the senior presentation evening in Moama, Arnold claimed the A-grade best and fairest and was awarded the Lukies Medal.

The Lukies Medallist claimed pole position in the count with 27 votes, winning by one vote over Katandra’s Rebecca Osmond.

Both received votes in 11 matches, the equal most.

The count came down to the final round, with Arnold receiving three votes against Mathoura in the final round over Osmond’s two votes against Deni Rovers.

Also claiming a best and fairest was Berrigan reserves footballer Matthew Ross.

Ross won the McKenzie Medal, finishing on 29 votes. He was nine clear of Strathmerton’s Zeke Bunge.

Finishing with a runner-up best and fairest from the district was Carissa Braybon from Tocumwal, who was second in the B-grade netball vote count.

The PDFNL Netball Umpiring Rising Star was also won by a local, Tully Jones from Tocumwal Netball Club.

Meanwhile, Tocumwal Football Club’s Connor Phibbs was runner-up in the Schifferle Transport Most Valuable Player Award.

Several players from the Southern Riverina based Picola clubs placed in the top 10 of the league across the grades.

B-grade: Carissa Braybon (Tocumwal), 2; Charlie Magill (Berrigan), 9; Jacinta Brunskill (Tocumwal), 10.

C-grade: Nicole Dyker (Tocumwal), 7; Jillian Noort (Tocumwal), 7; Niely Baron (Tocumwal), 9; Samantha Henderson (Berrigan), 10.

C-Reserve: Amy McGuinness (Tocumwal), 4; Holy Noonan (Tocumwal), 6; Loretta Walker (Jerilderie), 9; Sophie Walsh (Tocumwal), 9.

Football

Seniors: Kane Hawkins (Jerilderie), 5; Sam Sleigh (Jerilderie), 8; Xavier Walker (Tocumwal), 8.
