Junior netballers gallant in defeat

Coleambally’s under-11s side with their grand final runners-up medals.

Both the under-11s and under-15s Coleambally junior netball teams were gallant in defeat in their respective South West Juniors grand finals in Temora on Saturday.

Both sides came up against the Leeton/Whitton Crows.

The under-11s started off very strong and led for three quarters, until the Crows clicked.

The eventual premiers scored six goals in a row in the last quarter to break the back of the juniors, winning 18-16.

Olivia Hardy, Jaide Pound, Maddison Pound fought hard all day, and Georgia Leadbitter was adjudged best on court for Coleambally.

The under-15s had a tough assignment against a very formidable Crows side, who had the girls’ measure most of the game.

Coleambally controlled the game better in the second quarter to give them the lead, 17-15 at half-time.

However, the Leeton/Whitton girls came home strong, scoring 28 goals to 16 in the second half.

Pia Fattore was awarded best on court for Coleambally with Grace Muir, Jessie Pound and Tayla DeMamiel all trying hard as well.

The junior presentation day will be held Saturday, September 9 at the Coleambally Sportsground.

In senior news, Linda Clarke, Hannah Pound, Lauren Pound, Kevin Mannes, Stanley Tipiloura and James Buchanan have all been invited to the Farrer Football Netball League Presentation being held tonight in Wagga.
