Katamatite takes the win over Yarroweyah

Round nine of the Picola and District Football tournament saw Katamatite take on their northern neighbour Yarroweyah.

Playing at home, the Tigers were eager for victory, while Yarroweyah sought a comeback.

In the first quarter, the Tigers took an early 33-point lead, scoring 51 points to Yarroweyah's 18. By halftime, they had more than doubled their lead to 116-24.

The Hoppers fought back in the third quarter, bringing their total to 38 points. However, Katamatite steamed ahead, adding another 40 points to finish the third quarter at 156.

Despite their best efforts, Yarroweyah couldn't score in the final quarter, while the Tigers continued to dominate.

The final score at the sound of the siren was 202 to 38.

Katamatite’s best on ground were Mitch Ward, Toby Kopa, Mitchell Coleman, Nicholas Cluery and Jayson Bigg.

For the away team, their best on ground were Mitchell Paterson, Dustan Ebborn, Corey Reardon, Tom Oliver, Connor Sessions and Amiel Fa’A.

Yarroweyah’s Darren Patmore, Kyle Mckenzie, Corey Reardon, Dustan Ebborn, Tom Oliver and Thomas Tennant all kicked one goal.

Meanwhile, the Tigers' Mitchell Coleman kicked an impressive eight goals.

His achievement was closely followed by fellow Katamatite players Mitch Ward and Dylan Callard who each kicked seven goals.

Katamatite currently sits third on the ladder, reflecting their strong performance this season.

The Tigers coach James Hazelman said he was pleased with how the match went.

“We played pretty well,” he said.

Hazelman was particularly pleased with his side’s forward line, noting the importance of having an even spread of goal kickers.

With the Tigers playing first on the ladder, Strathmerton in the next round, Hazelman is eager to meet them head-to-head.

“ We’re looking forward to it,” he said.

“They (Strathmerton) are sitting undefeated currently, but we have had a pretty good season as well.”

Despite the loss, Yarroweyah coach Peter Chisnall remains positive about the future of the club and the team.

“We are on a complete rebuild and some of our players are starting to turn the corner,” he said.

“We got a young ruck man, Mitchell Paterson, and he’s just one of those players who bring other players into the game.”
