Mooroopna Recreation Reserve will play host to the Kyabram District League grand final again this year after the league announced its finals fixture.

The decider has been pencilled in for Saturday, September 17.

KDL president Fraser Kerrins said the league was looking forward to having the grand final played once again at one of the Goulburn Valley’s premier sporting hubs.

“Mooroopna is a central location with state-of-the-art facilities,” he said.

“The KDL executive felt this was a fantastic option and therefore, were happy for the grand final to once again be held there.”

The KDL decider has been held at the venue since 2014.

Kerrins said a league transition to a top eight format this year had allowed for more clubs across the region to take part in the finals series.

“This year’s final eight will allow more clubs to host a final and gives more teams an opportunity to compete for a premiership,” Kerrins said.

KDL finals get under way on August 20, with the first elimination final to be held at Longwood’s Redlegs Stadium before a second elimination bout at Lancaster Recreation Reserve the following day.

Qualifying finals will be held on August 27 and 28 at Rushworth and Merrigum respectively, before semi finals get under way in September at Avenel and Central Park Recreation Reserve.

The two semi finals will be held on September 3 and 4.

Preliminary finals are scheduled for September 10 and 11 at Tallygaroopna and Girgarre.

In the announcement the league also revealed it would follow in the footsteps of last year’s presentation awards night.

The league will host an online presentation on September 22 following the grand final, with all clubs invited to host a function night at their respective clubrooms where they will take part in the event.

League operations manager Julian Perta said the league was keen to host a virtual presentation night after last year’s success.

“The KDL held their presentation night online last year and the executive committee felt that it was quite successful,” he said.

“This year, the league is aiming to have the night in the format of The Front Bar, so it should be an enjoyable night for each club.”

The KDL home-and-away season concludes this weekend, and the top eight still largely hangs in the balance with one round remaining.
