It was a week to remember for Alou Kuol, with the Shepparton soccer export on the score sheet for Australia’s youth team.
Participating in an Australia Men’s Talent Identification camp in the Netherlands last week, Kuol was joined by 21 of Australia’s brightest young soccer talents.
Spread across five days, the camp, held in the Dutch town of Hoevelaken, was full of European-based players with Australians playing in the A-League Men’s competition renaming at home.
The side took on Jong FC Utrecht on Wednesday before battling with the Netherlands under-19s on Friday, with the full camp under the watchful eyes of former Socceroos Paul Okon and Craig Moore.
Kuol’s big moment came against the Dutch, scoring a headed goal in a 2-2 draw against the under-19 side.
This camp was all about preparing for the AFC U23 Asian Cup which will be held from June 1 to June 19 in Uzbekistan.
Drawn against Jordan, Iraq and Kuwait in Group B, Australia will be looking to go two better than last time out and win the title.
Kuol’s status as one of the nation’s best young prospects is sure to put him in good stead to make the national side for the tournament.
Currently on loan to SV Sandhausen in Germany, Kuol will be looking to impress Australia’s new, yet-to-be-appointed, under-23 coach and lock in a place at the prestigious continental competition.
