One of the Seymour district's leading sporting clubs for women is gearing up for another action-packed Goulburn Murray Cricket Association season.
Fresh off an elimination final appearance in its debut campaign, Nagambie Cricket Club women's co-coach Blair Taylor-Lloyd said there was an exciting feeling at the Nagambie Recreation Reserve heading into the 2024-25 season.
The Lakers will this season be looking to knock off defending premier Echuca, which defeated the previously undefeated Mooroopna by nine wickets in last summer’s grand final.
“The ladies are keen to get started, some of them never put the bat and ball down at the end of last season and have been working on their game ever since,” Taylor-Lloyd said.
Taylor-Lloyd, along with Will O'Brien, will lead the ladies for the second consecutive season, with Kait Carracher to captain.
Taylor-Lloyd believes it is fantastic that women are getting more opportunities in the Goulburn Valley.
“The team’s popularity is great for our community as it provides another local opportunity for women wishing to participate in community sport,” Taylor-Lloyd said.
First up for the Lakers is a 50km trip up the Goulburn Valley Fwy to Shepparton to take on Shepparton Youth Club United at Vibert Reserve.
A highly anticipated home opener against defending premier Mooroopna will follow the next week.
