Lions raring to go for Grand Final

The Mulwala Reserves will be looking to admonish themselves of last year’s heartbreaking Grand Final loss with a victory in the 2024 Grand Final.

Coach Lachlan Orr has had the team purring along all year and the top two finish on the ladder was reward for their great work during the season.

Victory in the Semi Final against Deniliquin whom they will meet again on Saturday was a hard-fought win that the team knows they will have to replicate and more to hold the cup up this year. The team is littered with gun players, some at the end of their careers and others at the start but one thing for sure is, they will all be having a real crack on Saturday once they cross the white line at Moama.

Best of luck to all the Football teams playing in the Grand final on Saturday and also the Under 15s team of champions on the netball court.

Thirds

Having gotten into the Grand Final the hard way, the Under 17s will be confident that the consistent footy they have played over the year, and the exceptional finals campaign they have had so far, will be enough to surge them into September glory.

For the first time for most of the year, Super Coach Mark House will have a full list to choose from and will be excited that young stars Ollie Watson and Max O’Bryan are back to their best form after mid-season injuries.

The team has achieved so much already and the team first ethos that has got them to this point will be further emphasised by the coaching group on Saturday.

Having disposed of the best performed team all year Moama in a bruising victory on Saturday, Mulwala will be confident they have the speed to match Cobram and will be looking to outmuscle their opposition in the same way they clawed to victory on the weekend.

With future stars in all positions Coach House knows that all the young men will be looking to come out firing and deliver an Under 17s premiership back to Mulwala.

Fourths

The youngest of the Lions to be challenging for the 2024 Premiership has been the most impressive of the teams this season.

Having booked their spot from a hard-fought Semi Final win against Moama, they will match up against a strong Cobram team with whom they have beaten at both meetings in 2024.

The Fourths will be looking to star midfielder and Captain Axel Saunders to lead from the front as he has done all year and they will be confident that the support he receives from fellow on ballers Byron Dodd, Fletcher Woodhead and Hayden Stephens will be enough to match up against Cobram.

Defensively Mulwala have been hard to score against all year due mainly to the core back group of Wally Hammon, Hugo Varndell and Archer Kirchen who will again be making life difficult for their opponents.

The forward half led by Vice Captain Henry Donovan and full forward Alex Richardson will be looking to get the early scoreboard pressure in the game and the many fleet footed smaller players around them have been working together brilliantly in the lead up to Saturday’s game. Nate Leith, Levi Purtle and Tyce Woodhead have proven to be the versatile cog in the wheel and Coach Ryan Donovan will be delighted to move these boys wherever they are needed on the ground knowing that they always give their all.

Coach Dono and his assistants will be certain that as they have all year, the boys will be giving their full effort to bring the first of hopefully many cups back to Mulwala.
