Mulwala have defeated arch nemesis Moama in a thrilling match at Barooga to advance themselves to the 2024 Under 17s Grand Final.

Buoyed by the return of star goal kicker Max O’Bryan, the team were on the attack from the onset with a slight breeze at their back.

The double pronged forward set up of Max and Hunter Lonergan was a winner early as the Moama defenders were having trouble matching up against the two talls and Hunter was the beneficiary of the first goal to Mulwala.

Brock Johnson was winning the ball out of the ruck and Ollie Watson was getting on top of the Moama midfield winning the hard balls around the contest early as Mulwala had all the play, and when Van Kreeck kicked a beautiful snap from the pocket Mulwala took an early lead into quarter time.

Moama fought back in the second quarter with the wind however Mulwala were able to get a great goal from Max after some brilliant play up the field from Beau Sissons and Jai Sneddon to stay in touch at half time.

Super Coach Mark House asked for a bit more from the young men in the third quarter and they responded with a standout quarter where the midfielders Ollie, Riley Bone and Levi Saunders controlled the play and the wingers Beau and Van were using their speed to propel the ball into Mulwala’s forward half where Tige Sanderson and Jai Sneddon were playing the games of their lives and a 3 goal to zero quarter ensued.

With a solid lead heading into the last quarter, the entire team knuckled down on their opponents and the backline of Jordan Ibbott, Ryan Cameron, Archie Purtle and Charlie Drake who had been fantastic all day, went about thwarting the many Moama advances and as a collective team they got the job done and earned their spot in the Grand Final.
