Six of the region’s brightest cricketing prospects will be given a chance to strut their stuff against the best the state has to offer, with Cricket Victoria announcing the squads for its emerging talent program in season 2022/23.
Euroa’s Georgia Gall and Puckapunyal’s Madison Albers headline the list, taking their place in the Victorian Female Emerging Performance squad.
Players have been selected following strong performances in Victorian pathway programs and in Victorian Premier Cricket, and it is the next step up from the underage emerging talent programs.
Gall, a talented multi-sport athlete, comes into the squad having already been contracted by WBBL franchise Melbourne Stars and is also currently on Melbourne’s AFLW list.
Albers, who featured in the squad last year, plies her trade for Carlton in Premier Cricket and recently appeared on the first season of the women’s Renegades Recruit program.
The program offers enhanced training opportunities throughout the pre-season and further match opportunities with and against the Victorian Women’s squad over the summer months.
“We’re excited to see the talent coming through and pleased to reward those selected in this squad,” Cricket Victoria head of talent development Dean Russ said.
“This program will ensure players are well prepared for the start of the Premier Cricket season and provide an insight to cricket at the elite level to assist in their development.
“The goal is to provide each player with an experience that will add value to their preparation for the 2022-23 season.”
In the underage squads, Shepparton United’s James Jarrett and Echuca’s Archer Carlile take their place in the under 17 Victoria Country program.
Aimed at helping prepare the Victoria Country squad for the under 17 championships in January, the boys will be coached by former Test cricketer Julien Wiener.
While Central Park-St Brendans talent Gemma Boyd and Echuca’s Grace Moyle have been selected in the under 16 Victoria Country squad, as they continue to develop into exciting young players.
