Nagambie has produced a quality performance to take out the Goulburn Valley Playing Area weekend division four title, downing Seymour VRI in the grand final.
It was a contest that could have gone either way at Euroa, with both sides putting their best foot forward for the clash.
However, in the end Nagambie proved to strong on the day, running out an 89-84 winner.
Nagambie Bowls Club secretary-treasurer and team manager Fiona Smith said it was a good feeling to come out on top.
“We’ve been having a tough tussle with VRI all season and it’s been going to and fro in each of the games, so it’s been a big effort on our club’s behalf to be able to knock them off in the grand final,” Smith said.
“They were position number one and we were in position number two, so it was a big effort on all four teams’ behalf.”
The decider was certainly a tense contest, with each side taking out two rinks.
In the end it was a gallant performance from Wayne Page’s rink three side against Brendan and Phillip Challis which helped get Nagambie over the line.
"We were able to struggle and get over the line which was great,“ she said.
“I think all the players put in at some stage in the day.
“Having the supporters there as well was a big bonus for us, we had a lot of support and also players that had missed out on being selected were there to support us as well, so it was a big boost for us.”
Smith said Nagambie had already started recruiting for next season, with the club likely to accept promotion to division three after the weekend’s win.
“It’s a big thing for a small club like ours, Nagambie, to A. get into a grand final and B. win it, we had a midweek team as well this year and they got into the finals as well,’’ Smith said.
“For such a small club to have both of our teams get into the finals is just a huge effort, it just shows how competitive we are.
“We’ve already started recruiting for next year, we’ve had a couple of people shift into Nagambie that were playing in Melbourne, so we’ve signed them up.
“Hopefully we’ll have another social division playing next year as well.”
