It was a classic tale of David versus Goliath at Shepparton Park Bowls Club on Saturday afternoon as Tallygaroopna stunned the Goulburn Valley bowls community with a convincing 17-100 to 1-73 win over the previously undefeated Seymour in the weekend pennant division three decider.
Producing one of the more dominant home and away season’s you are likely to see in local bowls, the Lions simply could not deal with the pressure of grand final day, as a hungry Redlegs outfit dominated proceedings from start to finish.
Tallygaroopna Bowls Club president and division three bowler Dean Jones said he could not be prouder of what his team achieved on the big stage.
“It was fantastic and absolutely unbelievable, the whole four rinks, every single player was on fire, which was great, and were just up and about from the start,” Jones said.
“We had got close to them on both occasions during the year, so we took some confidence out of that and knew if we put our best bowls forward, we could do it.
“Every player was just so determined to win the grand final and when 16 blokes all come together you can cause upsets and make anything happen.”
Winning three rinks and claiming a draw in the other, the Redlegs thrived by bowling as a unit, with their energy on the green simply blowing Seymour out of the water.
Damien Williams was particularly impressive for Tallygaroopna, inspiring a clinical 33-16 triumph to set up the incredible team performance.
Tom Goodwin (23-18) and Peter Emanuelli continued the positive momentum for the Redlegs, while Seymour could take some solace out of the work of Graeme Flint, who ensured it didn’t get completely swept.
A result that has Tallygaroopna jump into division two next season, Jones said it was more proof the club was heading in the right direction.
“The aim was to continue to build, and we have had a plan in place for a few years now which we are starting to see come to life, having a division one, three and five team is great, but to now be in one, two and four it makes us a very attractive place to be,” he said.
“Success breeds success and at the moment we are seeing the reward from all our hard work, the culture of the club is just fantastic right now and these results are just proof we have something pretty special.”
