For Benalla product Madison Gray, a memorable Northern Country Women’s League Youth Girls grand final triumph was the ideal way to cap off her junior football career.

Gray, who is knocking on the door at AFLW level, starred for the Shepparton Swans as they slogged out a 4.6 (30) to 0.3 (3) win over Moama on Sunday, July 17.

The class talent spearheaded her adopted club to victory with a standout three-goal performance, one that saw her finish with best-on-ground honours.

Gray’s sublime outing in the wet conditions at Shepparton’s Princess Park helped the Swans notch their maiden Northern Country Women’s League Youth Girls premiership.

“It hasn’t really sunk in yet,” Gray, 18, said.

“When I started off with the girls three years ago our skills weren’t that great but we’ve all progressed so much over the three years and I’m so proud.

“I’m just so proud of every single one of the girls, they’ve all improved so that’s all you can ask for in a team.

“And this is the end of my junior footy so I’m kind of emotional about that as well.

“It’s just great to get out with the girls and finish my last junior game with a good win — I’m very happy.”

Gray celebrated the grand final victory alongside her sister Tayissa — who was another standout performer for the Swans in defence.

The Gray twins shifted to Princess Park three years ago for the Swans’ inaugural season in 2020.

Countless hours in the car along the Midland Hwy have all been made worth it, according to Gray.

“It’s just the good vibes around the team,” she said.

“And forming friendships that you’re going to have forever.”
