Mansfield coach Chad Owens was pleased with just about everything from his side’s 42-point win at home over Shepparton Swans — except for one thing.

A 12-minute patch of footy in the third quarter.

The Eagles were dominant in the opening quarter of the round 15 Goulburn Valley League encounter and led by 31 points at first break.

That margin increased to seven goals at half-time and the result looked beyond doubt until the flashy Swans booted six unanswered goals in the third term to get within 10 points and showcased why they are one of the most exciting teams to watch in the competition.

“We got off to a fast start, into the wind too, and got straight into our game plan which was really positive,” Owens said.

“They came out and kicked six goals in 12 minutes ... they’re the fastest team in the comp, they are lightning quick and they showed that the previous week against Echuca.

“It was just that 12-minute patch in that third quarter — we need to fix that heading into finals.”

A goal from best-on talent Ben Christopher on the three-quarter-time siren calmed the nerves of Mansfield supporters.

The classy forward, who enjoyed 19 disposals, nine marks and four goals, booted another two in the last quarter as the Eagles piled on five majors to one in the 18.10 (118) to 11.10 (76) win.

“I was stoked with his game,” Owens said of Christopher.

“He doesn’t get a lot of reward for his efforts.

“His work rate around the ground, he competes in the air, he’s always competing.

“It was nice to see him get on the end of a few and get reward for effort.”

Fellow forward Cam Arnold “worked hard” and finished with five majors while winger Sam Lynch chalked up 23 touches and five clearances.

Teenage ruckman Dylan Lowry enjoyed a memorable senior debut and Harry Mahoney was a strong contributor in game 50.

VFL talent Max Clohesy was the standout for the Swans while fellow young gun James Auld led from the front with four majors.
