Connor Trewren’s spectacular start to his Kyabram Bowling Club career has continued and he is the only Goulburn Valley playing area division one pennant skip with four wins to his credit this season.
Trewren notched his fourth win of the season in Kyabram’s 14-4 (103-94) win against Tatura Hilltop in the weekend’s sixth round of matches. He and David Cartwright both scored big wins as Geoff Beattie suffered his first defeat of the season and Brett Reiner was also beaten.
Kyabram will now face East Shepparton, which is second bottom, in a special Friday night fixture that will feature Scottish world champion Alex Marshall.
Marshall will make a one-off appearance with the team in its round seven fixture, starting at 6pm on Friday.
He is expected to draw a big crowd to the club, having a bag of Commonwealth Games medals to his credit and a swag of indoor and outdoor world titles.
Kyabram is sitting third on the ladder, with a 3-1 win/loss record, but did not have things all its own way against Tatura.
Fittingly, former Hilltop star Cartwright was in brilliant form on Saturday after a slow start to the season.
Saturday was his first win, from four outings, in his return to Kyabram and he combined with David Townsend, Charlie Boswood and Greg Shilling for a 29-17 victory.
Trewren was even more dominant on his rink, Sally Beach again leading the way with support from Mal Williams and Paul McInnes in a 35-21 victory.
Brett Reiner lost his match with Brendon Boyd by eight shots, 22-30, while Geoff Beattie was a 17-26 loser to Nicholas Boyd.
Top team Shepparton Golf continued its domination with a 51 shot win against Shepparton Park. Golf beat Kyabram in round four by four shots.
Tallygaroopna, which is the reigning premier and sits second on the ladder, beat Stanhope by 15 shots and East Shepparton had its first win of the season against divisional newcomer Mooroopna.

Club president John Hausler produced an outstanding result in tandem with in form third Lea Beattie, Henry Boswood and Maurice Hateley, winning 34-18.
Kyabram won three rinks and drew the other, with Noel Reddrop and Chris Preddy also notching victories.
– Kyabram sits on top of the division four competition, its 19 shot win against East Shepparton allowing it to maintain an unbeaten status.
Ted Hazelman is the second ranked skip in the competition with four wins to his credit, while Robert Canute is ranked fifth on the skipper’s ladder in the 2022-23 season.
Hazelman won by two shots and Canute by nine, but it was Darryl Gade’s 11 shot win which was the biggest of the four skips. On the other rink Nardo Di Petta lost by three.
