Mathoura mate v mate

Melyssa Banks and Maz Carlin honing their cheering skills prior to the big game.

Friendships will be put to the test tonight for two passionate AFL supporters from Mathoura.

Maz Carlin is a mad Sydney Swans supporter, and everyone knows Melyssa Banks is a one-eyed Carlton supporter.

These two passionate supporters will be attending the massive Carlton versus Sydney game live at the MCG.

Maz said she will be picking her teenage daughter up from school early.

“We will make the three hour trek to the MCG.

“I’m a bit worried about travelling in a car full of Carlton supporters, being the only Swans supporter.

“I think it will be close up until three quarter time, then Carlton will run away with the win.

“Swans have been fading out in the last quarter.

“I’m just hoping we are all friends at the end of the game, as I know Mel and I are both usually very passionate supporters and vocal.”

Melyssa agreed, and is sure her team will have bragging rights.

“I am very confident Carlton will win by four goals,” she said.

“I’m just excited we are finally playing finals again, I cannot wait.”

The game kicks off at 7.50pm with Carlton Blues heading into the game as favourites.

It’s sees the end of a decade-long drought for the Blues, who are returning to the finals for the first time since 2013.

Fans of the Blues have every right to feel nervous against a Swans outfit that made it through to the grand final against Geelong last year.

With both sides looking shaky early in the year, then bouncing back in the later half of the season, the stage is set for an almighty clash.

Sydney’s biggest strength has been pressure and scoring off turnover, while Carlton’s midfield is living up to expectations and delivering the ball into its lethal forward line with precision.

The MCG should hold an advantage for the Blues and the crowd may just get them over the line.

Whatever the result it will be a fantastic game to watch.
