All roads lead to the Moama Recreation Reserve on Saturday afternoon, with Cobram set to take on Mulwala in the Murray Football League grand final.

The Tigers have had an incredible year on the field, with a team bursting at the seams with locals and talented youngsters securing a minor premiership, including a 12-game unbeaten run.

Cobram’s opponents on Saturday afternoon have been equally as impressive this year, finishing equal on points with the yellow and black side along with boasting one of the best midfields in the competition.

Speaking ahead of the big game, Cobram coach John Brunskill said it was an exciting time for everyone involved in the club and the community.

“We’ll go out there, put our best foot forward and see what happens I suppose,” Brunskill said.

“A lot of the blokes that are playing senior football at the moment weren’t even born when Cobram won their last one so it’s exciting for them.”

Despite downing Mulwala the last two times they have met, the Lions are sure to be a force to be reckoned with and Brunskill explained they have plenty of strengths.

“They’re (Mulwala) a really good side, they’ve got a really good midfield and some people that can kick quality goals so they’re certainly a dangerous side,” he said.

With a number of days to go until the decider, the Tigers’ squad is yet to be locked in, with Brunskill and his fellow coaches set to be faced with a selection headache.

“It (the squad) changed whether we were playing Mulwala or Moama,” he said.

“We’ve sort of narrowed it down a little bit but we still haven’t narrowed it down all the way, we’ve got five to come back in which will be handy, but it will also be sad for the people that miss out.

“But as we’ve said all year, it’s going to take 30-plus blokes to get where we want to get.”

Brunskill said it would “mean a fair bit” if Cobram could get the job done on Saturday, with the club not playing in a senior football decider since 2011 and not winning one since 1998.

“I’ve been involved in the club now since 2010, I was involved in the last time we played in a grand final but I’ve also been through some dark times too,” he said.

“We made a pact eight years ago to stick with the locals because the thirds and fourths were doing really well.

“I think we’ve brought one extra in this year, which is Mark Baker, so to have the majority of kids in our side which have played with us for the last seven or eight years plus all our juniors which have played all their footy here it’s really pleasing for the club.

“We’ll see what happens on the day, hopefully we can play our best football.

“We’re looking forward to it, it will be interesting times for all involved,” Brunskill said.
