Strong all-round contributions from Tongala under-11 players Tait Ohlsen and Spencer Williams were not enough for the Mini Blues to overcome the powerful Moama Mowers in round two of the Goulburn Murray Cricket competition.
Tongala sent the Mowers in to bat after winning the toss, but at the end of 20 overs faced a 123-run total.
Ohlsen took a wicket in his only over and Williams matched that effort in his over.
In the run chase Tongala managed 87 runs, Ohlsen scoring seven and Williams six, a score matched by Denzil Daniels and Tex Townsend.
Tongala has another tough assignment this week, facing Moama Black which has two scores of 114 to its credit to open the season.
· Stanhope’s under-11 team, after struggling in the opening week against a powerful Fire Brigade unit, fell four runs shy of a first win against Echuca White.
Choosing to bat after winning the toss, Chase Baumann top scored and had support from Lennon Hall as Stanhope scored 84 from 20 overs.
Hall was the pick of the bowlers, his three overs netting figures of 2-4, while Harry Fisher and Finn Archard also took wickets.
This week Stanhope has the chance to register a first win, facing another winless team from the opening two rounds — Echuca Green.
· Fire Brigade has proved its opening round domniation of Stanhope was no fluke by beating Echuca Green by 49 runs.
Echuca won the toss and chose to bat, but after 20 overs had managed only 61 runs as Oscar Andison and Cooper Chapman both took two wickets to start the innings.
Later Eli Coombs took 2-2 from his three overs, including two maidens, while Levi Cleveland also took two wickets from his three-over spell.
Fire Brigade took 10.1 overs to score 110, the Andison brothers again coming to the fore.
Archie scored 19 from 15 balls, with two boundaries, and Oscar scored 17 not out from his 15-ball allocation.
· Tongala under-15 all-rounder Hugo Monnich Vo was the sole shining light as his team faced an enormous task against Echuca last week.
Echuca scored 193 from 33.4 overs in week one of the game, but it was only Monnich Vo who managed double figures in the run chase.
Tongala finished with 9-72 from 16.2 overs, Monnich Vo arriving at the crease late in the first over when Jack Brennan was dismissed and remaining at the wicket for the rest of the innings.
He faced 42 deliveries and struck five boundaries in his 34 not out.
