It was another entertaining weekend of Murray League action, with Barooga coming close to a win and Cobram cruising to victory.

The Hawks, who went down by 104 points in round one, bounced back in round two, falling to Tongala by just 14 points.

Barooga was in the box seat for much of the contest, and coach Jackson Trengove would be proud of how his side took it up to the Blues.

This game could have gone either way, with Barooga down a point at quarter time, 14 points at half-time and up by a point at three-quarter time.

However, the Hawks could not hold on, with a big Tongala last term, consisting of three goals and ten points, enough to see the side get over the line.

Among Barooga’s best was Tomas O’Sullivan, Kris Bextream and Riley Gow, while Ethan Leighton-Daly scored three majors.

For Tongala, the win extends its Murray League winning streak to 15, with the side up and about early this season.

In other games, Numurkah registered its first win of the season, travelling to Finley and triumphing 10.13 (73) to 4.12 (36).

Moama sent a powerful message to its Murray League competitors, dominating five-time reigning premier Nathalia from start to finish to come away with a 23.14 (152) to 2.0 (12) win away from home.

Deniliquin continued its hot start to the new season, registering a second successive 100-point win after dismantling Echuca United 20.18 (138) to 4.7 (31).

Elsewhere, Mulwala did what it had to do against a gutsy Rumbalara side, registering a comfortable 11.15 (81) to 8.3 (51) triumph, while Cobram showed its class with a pivotal 17.10 (112) to 11.10 (76) win over Congupna.

This weekend is set to be jam packed with action, with local rivals Cobram and Barooga battling it out in Cobram at 2pm on Saturday.

  • Tough contests across the board headlined the second round of Murray Netball League action, with very little separating the majority of the round two match-ups.

Congupna, entering its fixture on the back of a clinical 65-20 drubbing of Numurkah in round one, had to do it the hard way against Cobram, overcoming the Tigers in a nail-biter, 45-38.

Cobram’s players, keen to make amends after going down to Finley in the first round, gave it their all in the opening two terms, prompting Congupna to regroup at the half.

In other action, Finley continued its perfect start to cruise to the top of the MNL ladder with a 52-13 dismantling of Numurkah.

Tongala delivered a strong 54-32 win over Barooga to place them in third, while Rumbalara rounds out the out the top four after Jess Bamblett’s side secured a comprehensive 66-34 win over Mulwala.

Deniliquin was too strong for Echuca United in its clash, the Rams coming away with a superb 18-goal win, while Nathalia accounted for Moama by 15 goals in a 37-22 win.
